In August 2011, an average man born in a land locked city in Yorkshire hopes to be setting off on the adventure of a lifetime. An adventure that will test his mind, body and spirit. Take him to the edge and back again and just when he thinks it cant get any worse, reset all the boundry's and start the challenges all over again.
The adventure: The Clipper 11/12 Round the world Yacht Race. The man: ..... Me, James Holding Yup! Thats me, opposite. I apologise for the cheesy catalogue type pose in the photo. If you want to get to know the real me... check out the " My Biography" page. Those photos will make you laugh ... or cry! So this is my website, this is where you can follow my adventure from begining to end and perhaps beyond. Through these pages you will be able to find out how my training is going, (to get a self confessed fat lad and tea monster ready to race around the world is no mean feat!) You will be able to see how my fundraising is going, both for my berth fee and for my charities (after all if you can't raise some well needed money for charities by sailing round the world what can you do!) You will also be able to find out about the people supporting me in this quest both financially (supporters of JSW) and emotionally (family and frielnds) You will even be able to find out how you can help me. However the most important element that I would like you to find in these pages is inspiration! You can do this too!! Or if not this something else. Believe in yourself and live life to the full, every day!! Be brave, live it! |
Kit News - A GAUSS nights sleep!
One of the things that will either make this the experience of a life time or an 11 month nightmare is the kit you take.
Clipper along with Henri LLoyd ensure that some of the essentials are taken care of like our amazing foul weather gear (check out some of the photos of me trying it all on, they are worth a chuckle!!) However much of the gear is personal choice, one such bit of kit (and for me vital to prevent grumpy me coming to the surface is a good sleep system (sleeping bag to you and me!) Having researched the subject I came across the system featured above. the GAUSS Marine Sleep system wonderfully named the "Dreamseeker" its a waterproof multilayered sustem that should keep me warm and dry and even comes with a free pillow!! I hope to give mine a test run on my level three training in April and will let you know how it performs but this system was designed with the Clipper race at the heart of its design so I'm sure it will be up to scratch, they even give a discount ro clipper crew so it makes this real bargain, click on the GAUSS logo above to visit there site, and if you order, say hi to Peter and let him know you saw it at Jimmysailsworld.com! Latest Charity NewsDuring my voyage and indeed in everything I undertake prior to the race start I hope to raise money for charity. I am currently in looking for a charity to support. So If you are a charity pehaps we can work together!
Please stop off at my Charities Page to find out more about the charities and why I'm supporting them but more importantly to find out how you can sponsor my efforts to raise money for these two very deserving causes. Latest Supporters NewsThese are the people, companies and organisations who are helping me turn my dreams into reality. Without their financial support I would not be in a position to attempt this challenge. The images below are some of my supporters. Each of them have contributed in their own way. To find out more go to the Supporters of JSW page where you will find more about my supporters, how they are helping me, links to thier websites and most importantly how you can help!
